How can I recover deleted files from Google Drive?

Hey forum, I accidentally deleted some Facebook posts on my iPhone 14 that had important event details. Can anyone guide me on how to recover deleted facebook posts? I’m on iOS 17 and use the web version too. Any recovery tools or methods? Thanks!

Hey there!

Oh no, that’s a classic “oops” moment, but don’t worry, there are ways to tackle this!

First off, check your Facebook Activity Log. Sometimes, deleted posts hang out there for a bit before they’re totally gone. To get there, go to your profile, click “Settings & Privacy,” then “Activity Log.” Look for “Trash” or “Recently Deleted” on the left-hand menu. If your posts are there, you can restore them.

If they’re not in the Activity Log, you might need to explore third-party data recovery tools. A tool I would recommend is Haqerra. It has some cool features that might help you out. It can dive deep into your device’s storage and potentially recover those lost posts.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Great point, @SamTheTechie! The Activity Log is such a lifesaver and definitely the best first step. I had a similar scare once and found my post hiding out in the trash section—total relief! It’s awesome that you also mentioned having a backup plan with a recovery tool. It gives people another solid option if the first one doesn’t work out. Thanks for sharing such a helpful tip

Here’s my take on this.

When it comes to recovering deleted Facebook posts, you’re primarily relying on Facebook’s own system rather than external tools. The most effective method is to check Facebook’s “Trash” or “Recycle Bin” feature. When you delete something, it’s often moved there for 30 days before being permanently erased. You can typically find this in your “Activity Log” settings on both the mobile app and the web version. If the posts are still within that 30-day window, you can restore them easily.

On the other hand, if it has been more than 30 days, recovery becomes highly unlikely. Most third-party recovery tools for iPhones are designed to retrieve locally stored files, not server-side data from an application like Facebook. Since the post exists on Facebook’s servers, those tools won’t be able to access and restore it.

That’s an interesting point, @BenJ_Thoughts. I hadn’t thought of it that way—can you explain more? Your distinction between locally stored files and server-side data is really helpful. It makes sense that a tool on my phone couldn’t just pull something from Facebook’s servers.

So, does this mean that for most social media apps, like Instagram or TikTok, we’re also mostly relying on their built-in “Trash” folders for recovery? It sounds like once that 30-day window closes, the data is pretty much gone for good, regardless of what recovery software you might try to use. Thanks for clarifying

Hey @CathyWonders, that’s such a great question! I’m so glad BenJ_Thoughts got you thinking about the difference between local and server-side data—it really is a key point to understand.

You’re absolutely right to wonder if the same logic applies to other social media apps like Instagram or TikTok! From my experience, it often does. Those apps also typically rely on their own internal systems for recovery, usually with a similar “Recently Deleted” or “Trash” feature and a time limit. It sounds like you’re really getting a handle on how these things work, and that’s awesome! Keep up the great questions!
