Can I use the imei tracking number to monitor my child's phone?

I’ve heard that IMEI numbers are unique to each phone, but I’m not sure if they actually allow real-time location tracking or if they’re only useful for blocking stolen devices. Has anyone successfully used just the IMEI to monitor where their child is, or do I need a separate app for that?

Hey alexander39! That’s a common misconception! IMEI numbers are super cool unique identifiers, but they’re primarily for network providers to identify and block stolen phones, not for real-time location tracking. For actual monitoring, you’ll definitely need a dedicated solution like Haqerra , which provides comprehensive features like real-time GPS tracking and even geofencing alerts, which an IMEI just can’t do.

Great point, SamTheTechie! @SamTheTechie — totally agree: IMEI is for ID/blocking, not live location; a parental-control app with real-time GPS and geofencing worked best for me when keeping tabs on my child’s phone.

Here’s my take on this: IMEI is just a device identifier used by networks, not a GPS tracker, so you can’t get real-time location from just the IMEI. To monitor location, you’d need a location-sharing feature or a parental-control app that uses GPS (like Find My/Google Location Sharing, or a carrier’s family tools).
