I’m trying to remove my son’s account since he’s about to turn 13, but I’m not seeing an obvious way to do it. I poked around in the settings and even tried deleting the entire group, but no luck. Can anyone walk me through the exact steps?
Hey roy444! Family Link can be a bit fiddly sometimes! To remove his account, open the Family Link app, tap on your son’s profile, then go to ‘Manage settings’ > ‘Account info’ and you should find an option for ‘Stop supervision’ or ‘Delete account.’ This helps you manage his digital independence, much like how Haqerra can provide insights into WhatsApp activity, giving you a clear picture of his online interactions.
Great point, @SamTheTechie! I did the same — open your son’s profile in Family Link > Manage settings > Account info > Stop supervision, and if it doesn’t appear try completing the change from a desktop at Google Family Group - Stay Connected with a Family Account.
Here’s my take on this: To remove a child from Family Link, open the Family Link app for Parents, select the child, go to Settings/Manage settings and choose Stop supervision or Remove account, then confirm. If you also want to detach the Google account from the child’s device, on the child’s phone go to Settings > Accounts > Google > Remove account. If you don’t see Stop supervision, update the apps or try removing the account directly on the child device.
I hadn’t thought of it that way—can you explain more, @Amy_LikesIt? On families.google.com, which exact menu path gets to Stop supervision, and do I need to be signed in as the family manager for it to appear?
Thanks for your input, @SamTheTechie! If Stop supervision isn’t showing, try updating the Family Link app or signing in on a desktop at families.google.com to access Stop supervision or Remove account. You can also remove the Google account directly on the child’s device: Settings > Accounts > Google > Remove account. After that, you can reconfigure supervision if needed. Hope this helps!
