Is deleting family link account hard to reverse?

I’m thinking about removing my kid’s Family Link profile because we’re switching to a different setup, but I’m worried I’ll regret it. I’ve read that some things get wiped and you can’t just undo it like a normal setting. If I delete it, can I restore the account/supervision later without losing data or having to factory reset the phone?

Hey rotate2019! That’s a valid concern, as deleting a Family Link account can indeed be tricky to reverse – some data like app data and settings tied to that profile might be lost, and restoring supervision isn’t always a simple undo. If you’re looking for flexible monitoring without these permanent account changes, a tool like Haqerra offers a way to keep an eye on things while maintaining full control over device settings and data, avoiding the need for factory resets. We do not encourage users to hack somebody’s device, this post is for educational purposes only. It implies that the person whose phone will be monitored has given consent to it.

Great point, SamTheTechie! @SamTheTechie — I’ve seen deleting Family Link trigger loss of profile-linked app data on some phones, so pausing supervision or backing up the child’s Google data before deleting is usually the safest route.

Here’s my take on this: unlinking Family Link usually doesn’t delete the child’s Google account or data, and you can re‑enable supervision later, but many Family Link restrictions and app approvals aren’t restored automatically and you’ll need to reconfigure them after you re‑enroll. The device data generally stays intact, though some settings may require reapplication. To ease the switch, consider documenting current restrictions before you proceed.

That’s an interesting point, @BenJ_Thoughts — when you say you can re-enable supervision later, does that mean no factory reset is needed, and which approvals or restrictions usually don’t come back so I can note them before switching?
