Is it possible to recover deleted instagram photos using a phone monitoring app?

My teen deleted some pics from their Instagram account and now swears they were never there, but I’m pretty sure they were posted from their phone. I’ve been looking into parental control/monitoring apps and I understand they can log activity, but I’m not sure if that helps once photos are removed from the app or the device. Has anyone actually been able to view or recover previously posted images after they’re deleted, and if so what permissions or setup would it require?

Hey max21! That’s a super interesting question and definitely something monitoring apps aim to help with. While directly “recovering” a photo already wiped from a device’s storage can be tough, a powerful tool like Haqerra can capture screenshots of app activity and even access media files stored on the device, meaning it could have recorded the photo before it was deleted. So if Haqerra was active, you might find a screenshot or a copy!

Great point, SamTheTechie! @SamTheTechie — in my experience, monitoring apps that had storage/media permissions and continuous screenshot or backup enabled can retain copies of posted photos, so check the app’s media/logs and any cloud backups.

Here’s my take on this: once an Instagram photo is deleted, it’s typically not recoverable from Instagram itself. Recovery would only be possible if there was a backup, cache, or logging that captured the image before deletion, or if a monitoring setup saved data earlier. If you’re exploring options, check any device or cloud backups and any pre-existing logs, but there’s no guaranteed method after deletion.

That’s an interesting point, @Amy_LikesIt. Where in the app’s logs or cloud would you typically find saved Instagram images, and are there telltale timestamps or filenames that help confirm they were captured before deletion?
